What Exactly is a Crown?
Just like a monarch’s crown rests on top of their head, a dental crown is essentially the same thing. Instead of proclaiming royal status, it is provided to patients to repair unhealthy teeth. Today, durable materials like porcelain, zirconia, or gold are used to fabricate crowns. At Love It Dental, we will personalize your treatment to satisfy all your preferences and requirements.
So, what can a dental crown fix? Many things, including:
- Unhealthy or broken down teeth
- Covering up discoloured or oddly shaped teeth
- Protecting weakened teeth
- Repairing cracked or chipped teeth
A crown can also be incorporated into other restorative services, such as:
- Covering an implant or a tooth that’s had a root canal
- Holding a dental bridge in place
Our dentist in Kelowna will have you come into our clinic so she can carefully evaluate your smile and decide on the best option for your case. If it is a dental crown, Dr. Degner will devise a tailored treatment plan and take digital impressions of your teeth. Should you have any concerns or questions, let us know so we can address them right away!
Getting Your Crown
After your initial appointment, you’ll need to return to Love It Dental for the crown to be placed. Most crowns are delivered the next day. Your tooth is cleaned so no bacteria or other debris can cause problems once the crown is in position. A dental cement is used to hold it in place. Dr. Degner will check that the crown meets your expectations, is comfortable, and does not impact your bite pattern before cementing it in place.
And that’s it! A pretty simple process! When you come back to visit us for your routine cleanings, we’ll also assess the condition of your crown to see if it’s holding up well. By practicing good dental habits, your crown can last up to 10 years or more.
