Root Canal in Kelowna

Root Canal Near you

The pulp is the centre of your tooth and contains nerves and blood vessels, which deliver nutrients to keep your tooth strong and healthy. However, the pulp is quite delicate and can experience damage due to infection, oral trauma, or excessive decay. When this occurs, it is important to seek professional treatment from a dentist near you as soon as you can. Doing so will eliminate any pain you’re experiencing and get your smile back to normal.

At our local dental practice, we are happy to offer quality root canal treatment. If you need this procedure, please give us a call today.

Root Canal in Kelowna

How the Procedure is Done

Below are the general steps involved in a root canal. This is a routine procedure that our dentist in Kelowna, Dr Suzanne Degner, is well-versed in. Our clinic emphasizes comfort and gentleness, so you will be in safe, capable hands from beginning to end. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know so we can address them.

  1. Consultation : Dr Degner will begin by evaluating your smile, reviewing your dental history, and having x-rays taken. This will allow us to comprehend the extent of your situation and create a treatment plan that meets all your needs.
  2. Anaesthesia : Local anesthesia is administered to prevent you from feeling pain while Dr Degner works. Let us know if you require additional care to remain comfortable; we also offer sedation dentistry services.
  3. Isolation : We will isolate the unhealthy tooth with a rubber dam. This keeps the tooth dry from saliva.
  4. Pulp Removal.  Degner will create a hole in the top of the tooth to reach the pulp, which resides in the pulp chamber. The infected or decayed mass will then be gently removed.
  5. Cleaning : The area is thoroughly disinfected and then sterilized to ensure infection does not happen again.
  6. Sealing : Gutta-percha, a rubbery material, seals the pulp chamber. Then, a filling is placed in the tooth.
  7. Permanent Crown. Following a root canal, a crown is recommended. Based on impressions taken of your tooth, a permanent crown is fabricated by dental technicians. This replaces the temporary crown made during a follow-up appointment. Dr Degner will ensure that it fits and feels comfortable.

Your treated tooth will be assessed during regular checkups. Practicing good hygiene habits will keep your tooth in good condition and prevent the need for more advanced treatment.
